IAC to launch niche sites incorporating search and social media

SearchEngineWatch.com reports that IAC, parent of Ask.com, is planning to launch several new niche sites that incorporate search and social media.  This reinforces the idea that IAC could be a logical investor/partner/owner of Playersearch.com!

Their first site launch is RushmoreDrive.com, a search, news and jobs site for the black community.  It will be very interesting to see if this site gets traction within its target market…I hope it does as it will demonstrate users willingness to use a different search engine to get more targeted results.  However, the search component of RushmoreDrive.com is simply a skinned version of Ask.com so their doesn’t seem to be a compelling reason to switch (I like the UI on both sites for general search purposes, not for sports though).  I did a search for Kobe Bryant on RushmoreDrive.com and Ask.com and the results are almost identical aside from the layout.  That is only one data point and maybe the results will diverge as the site gets more users.  The other components of the site probably provide more targeted and compelling reasons to use RushmoreDrive.com than the search component.
